Blogpost #8: Greater Responsibility

Each of us has a responsibility that must be done to our society because that also benefit us, ourselves. Whatever that is, we must complete the task that we are responsible for. I have a responsibility, my responsibility is to help my parents in house chores, study hard, and to care for my family.
Normal humans have normal responsibilities unlike government officials, presidents, those are the ones that has higher responsibility than we do.

"With great power comes great responsibility" stated Uncle Ben to his nephew, Peter Parker, also known as Spider-man. In this movie, it was showed how the normal human turned into a super hero, or more likely, a 'super human'. His normal responsibilities as a nephew and as a student became a greater responsibility as he acquired his super powers. Fighting crime and saving innocent people is not an easy job.

As I was browsing the internet, I found an article entitled, The Sequence of Personal Responsibility by Ron Haskins from the site called Brookings. Haskins stated, "But the personal responsibility also means that when individuals fail to meet expected standards, they do not look around for some factor outside themselves to blame." That goes for super heroes as well. Super heroes do not just look up for justice, or for responsibilities outside their personal lives, they consider it as personal.

For the other type of super humans, the non-heroic ones, responsibilities may seem inevitable, but for them, the real responsibilities are just like the normal humans have. They protect their names, reputations and all but that has nothing to do with non-personal responsibilities.

The things that supers tell us, either epic or non-epic super heroes is that responsibility has no exceptions. All of us should know what we have to do in order to live peacefully and happily. Social responsibilities tend to be more difficult as we grow older. And that is when we acquire more power. That is the time when we will have greater responsibility.

Blogpost #7: How does it feel like?

When I was a kid, until now, I don't know if I had read it from something but the question goes like this, "If you could have one super power, what would it be?". When I was young, I know what I want, and that was telekinesis or telepathic powers. Now, there's so many questions that popped into my mind like what benefit would I get if I could acquire such power? How can I help others using this kind of power? Can I dominate the world using this power? Why do I want this power and of all the super powers, why telepathy?

19 Times You Feel Like You Have Super Powers
It would be awesome to have such nice powers. Some may use it for good, some may use it for evil, and some may use it for their own wants. In a world full of super powers, I am sure things will stay balanced. In this kind of world, things may be balanced but it would never be the same again. Imagine yourself going to school and you are late, a single teleport can get you to your destination. You are having trouble opening the lid of a jar, you can open it just by using your mind. Having trouble lifting heavy objects? Just imagine yourself lifting it with just one finger. That's the beauty part. Now, for the negative side of that, imagine if there is a war, the battle arena or the place will be as doomed as hell. Animals may get involved and there would be so much killings that will happen.

I have found an article pertaining to this.It is entitled, Having Superpowers Could Ruin Your Life by Kirk Halimton in the site called Kotaku. "We all think it'd be great to have super-strength, but what if it's actually the worst?" Hamilton said. So far, I believe self-control plays a huge part of this. If one has no discipline and has no self-understanding to what he's going through, then having super powers would be such a nightmare.

Having super human strength, telepathy, echolocation, and other super powers, it can be a blessing or it can be a curse. It all depends on how you use it and for what purpose is that for. Things may get better, things may get worse. It is best to say now that being a regular human being is the best gift God has ever given me, or more likely, to live as a regular person. Being a super human plays a great role in our society. One that is deserving to have such nice powers is one who is disciplined, in a peaceful state of mind and is willing to accept the responsibility.

Blogpost #6: What's in it for the Supers?

Superhumans have scattered all over the world. When I was watching Stan Lee's Superhumans, he actually discovered Daniel Browning Smith which is also known as Rubberband man or the man with no bones. He actually made a request to Daniel to find his fellow 'Super humans'. In days, weeks, months, or maybe years of searching, I was astound that he actually found more.

Yeah maybe some of us can withstand the extreme temperatures, some of us can lift heavy objects using our mouth, but what are they really getting for all of this? I mean, after getting accepted in the society, does this thing help them to become a better person? A super human is defined as a human being with powers that exceeds the natural capabilities of a normal human being. When I was a child, I've always dreamed of having super natural abilities like walking through water, ceilings, super strength, mind control, invisibility, and etc. But as I grow older, I was trained to think differently, and it cleared my mind of how different fantasy and reality is. Now, it leaves me a question, can it really be helpful despite of defying the balance of the human nature?

While I was searching for answers, I have found an article entitled, The downside of being a Superhero, written by Ron Hogan at the site called, Den of Geek. "Having super powers is, undoubtedly awesome. But there are drawbacks . Sometimes, in fact, a hero's power are counter-productive". Ron Hogan said. It briefly explains in that statement that super humans as well have minimal and solo-unit advantages. What do I mean by solo-unit? It means that he is only benefited for himself. I mean like the electroman guy, we all know that he can not stand up whole day holding light bulbs when every body else needs it.

As for human trials, super natural capabilities have more disadvantage than that of an advantage, for there's really nothing in store for them. Fame? maybe. But other than that? I think there is none. They can use it for whatever purpose they want but one thing is for sure. Anything that is abused gets bad.

Blogpost #5: Social Acceptance and Rejection

I think everyone deserves to be accepted. Bisexuals, special children, and many more. All of us want to be accepted. But, in the counterpart of that, I have encountered people who are not accepted by their loved ones, simply because they do not satisfy the expectations and demands of the one that they are longing for. Actually, we are naturally born accepted. It is only when time passes by, people around us make irrational judgement. I am thankful that I am accepted by everyone for who I am. Especially my loved ones. From then on, I have concluded that understanding and love are the components for one to be accepted. Without the other, I think acceptance is going to be hard.

It is much harder when someone thinks that those two components that I have mentioned earlier are both present but it is still hard to be accepted. When I am undergoing this adolescent stage, I have watched movies depicting for strive for family bond. One of them was Hercules. His father, Zeus, sent him down to earth simply because his son is not accepted by the society that he lives on. Hercules was the son of Zeus and the mortal roman named Alcmene. Having their genes combined, they produced an off spring that is half-god, half-mortal. As for that, he is not accepted to be with his father. Both understanding and love is present by the two units but there is still some hindrance. Unable to accept by his father within their society, he is still unable to accept by the society that he lived as a mortal.

There was one article that I have found entitled, A little acceptance goes along the way by C. Nathan Dewall, Jean M. Twenge, Brad Brushman, Charles Im, and Kipling Willams in the site, 'Sage Journals'. According to the authors, "Social rejection hurts, causing aggression even against innocent people." This statement says it all. Social rejection does hurt a lot. It is deprived from that statement that social aggression results to tragic endings for those who are not accepted. But the authors have a theory called 'social impact theory' wherein they predicted that social aggression will decrease as power function of the number of people accepting the participants.

There is this another statement stated by Nathan DeWall about coping up with rejection and all.  We should assume that everyone is going to experience rejection on a semi-regular basis throughout their life, he stated. We all know that we will encounter rejection either we like it or not. We can not expect that people around us are nice all the time so for that statement, the best way to overcome rejection is to seek the hands of those people who are ready to accept us.
In the Disney movie, Hercules. His case was the same. Luckily, he did not went to rampaging the whole city. Self impact theory has been proved once Hercules didn't gave up in earning the trust of the people that he can protect their city.

The same goes with other superhumans having unnatural capabilities. Others might think you are weird, but be the weirdest creature that ever lived and be proud. Seek out others that understands you and love you for who you are. One day, everyone will appreciate of what you can do. Just they have to make sure that it will not harm others.

Blogpost #4: Super Heroes and Villains

In all of the epic movies that I have watched, like Spiderman, X-men, and many more, there have always been super heroes. Of course there will be because it is their movie after all. But, in the counterpart of that, meet the super villains. I mean, why can't there be an epic movie without a super villain? Why are there villains?

I know that super villains were created so that viewers picture out that justice and the good guy always wins. Good cannot be defeated. But, it kept telling me a question, if super heroes are accidentally made, or they are born with super natural abilities and powers, is it a coincidence that super villains are accidentally made as well? If yes, what will happen if the super villain is finally defeated? Will there be a never ending flow of super villains in lined with the super heroes to encounter?

I read an article entitled, Would there be super villains without super heroes? by view2view in the site called, Comic Book Therapy. In the title itself, he mentioned that there would be no super villains if it is for the super heroes. One example of this is Venom, the arch nemesis of Spiderman. In times where they were seeking jobs as photographer, they already had conflicts with each other. And the conflict became a fight when Spidey, also known as Peter Parker, decided to take a date with  the girlfriend of Venom. The unknown specie that the meteorite has brought to Earth decided to find another host when Parker removed it from his body. And thus, Venom was born. If there was no Venom-Spiderman conflict after Secret wars, there would be no venom to speak of.

As for me, I think super villains were not created by super heroes themselves. It is natural to have a conflict with each other sometimes. Super villains were created for the benefit of the movies or comic books. It is made to have a balance in life. There was a 'super' hero, and now there is 'super' villain.

Now, the remaining question is the never ending flow of super villains in lined with the super heroes to encounter. As I was browsing the internet, I have found a book entitled, Beyond Good and Evil written by Frederic Nietzsche in the site called, Gutenberg. "Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process, he does not become a monster. And when you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you." he stated. In this article, it explains here that evil will continuously rise. It is a part of human nature. This statement says that, reality or fantasy, there are over seven billion people in this planet that we are stepping on and what matters most is that as villains rises, heroes will rise as well and heroes shall overcome.

Villains depicted a picture of injustice, sorrow, despair and anger. However, it leaves us a notion that life is not perfect. We can not just open our mouths and automatically be fed with any one else. Life is not fair. It never is.  But despite all of that, there is someone or something that helps us fight for survival. Don't dare to have a perfect life. Just make everything else perfect for yourself.
